第五節 所有格及of結構
考點一 詞尾加 's或 ' 的所有格
所謂名詞所有格即表示名詞之間所有關系的特殊結構, 其最普通的形式為: n. +'s,
如: my mother's coat, the headmaster's home， the president's office
如果原詞結尾已有s, 則只要加 ' ,
如: the students' union, the ladies' room
例題:

It is widely believed that the pull of gravity on a falling raindrop changes ----round shape into a teardrop shape.
(A) of the drop
(B) the drop's
(C) drop of
(D) drops their
答案: (B)
解釋: 此句包含由that引導的賓語從句, 從句謂語動詞changes的賓語不完整, 據選項推知需要一個和round shape 搭配的表所屬關系的詞組, (B) 恰好構成所有格形式. 若選(A), 語序應為the round shape of the drop; (C) 所屬關系顛倒; (D) 結構混亂

考點二 of結構
所有格主要用于有生命的個體(人、國家或動物), 那么大多數無生命的物質或抽象概念間的所有關系，或者說凡是不能夠加's的名詞，都可用of結構構成短語來表示所有關系, 需要注意of前后都是名詞(包括代詞和動名詞)
如： the title of the passage
例如:

James Whistler was indifferent to the titles of his painted and even changed the names of some works years after their completion.
應改為: paintings
解釋: of 之前是名詞, 后面也需要一個名詞共同構成表示所有關系的結構, 將分詞painted改為名詞, 這個詞組的意思為他的畫的題目
(2)
Muscular motion is caused by the stimulate of specific nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
應改為: stimulation
解釋: 定冠詞the之后需要名詞與of+n.(specific nerve cells)結構搭配表示所屬關系, stimulate是動詞, 應改為名詞形式．
