　　I looked at him but I wasn't too frightened of him . he was dressed in dirty rags . You could hardly see his face because of his long black hair and whiskers. He was filthy and smelled like a goat . He kept on staring at me with wild eyes. At last he spoke.
　　"Fine clothes you've got on ! You think you're somebody now , don't you ? They tell me that you can read and write , I suppose that you're thinking that you're better than father now . We'll see about that , Just let me hear you read. "
　　I took up a book and began to read something about George Washington. I'd only read for a minute when he snatched the book out of my hands and threw it across the room.
