　　The next day, when my father was quite drunk, he went to Judge Thatcher and demanded the money. When the Judge wouldn't give it up,he swore that he'd go to a lawyer about it. He'd have it even if he had to kill the judge frist!
　　Widow Douglas went to court about me. She wanted to adopt me as her son. But there was a new judge in the court and he knew very little about my father's bad ways. He said that it would be wrong to separate a son from his father.
　　My father was very pleased about this. he came to me and said that he'd beat the life out of me if I didn't get some money for him. I borrowed three dollars from Judge Thatcher and gave it to him. Of course he went out and got drunk. Then he went round the town,cursing and shouting,and banging a tin pan till after midnight. They put him in prison for a week.
