一、Principles of Marine Cargo Insurance 海上貨物保險的原則
英文原文：Marine cargo insurance is based on the principles of insurable interest， utmost good faith， proximate cause， and indemnity.
注釋：be based on： 基于 insurable interest： 保險利益（interest： 一般意義是“興趣，愛好”，在這里是“利益，權益”之意，在銀行業務中我們常用“利息”這個詞意） utmost good faith： 最大（高）誠信，在此意為“最大誠信原則”（utmost： 最大的，最高的；faith： 信任，信用，good faith： 真誠，善意） proximate cause： 近因，在此意為“近因原則” indemnity： 賠償，補償，在此意為“最大賠償原則”
中文意思：保險利益的原則， 最大誠信原則、近因原則和賠償原則，這些是海上保險的基本原則。
注：我國現行保險法雖未直接規定近因原則，但在司法實踐中，近因原則已成為判斷保險人是否應承擔保險責任的一個重要標準。
英文原文：No contract of marine insurance is valid unless the assured has an insurable interest in the subject matter insured at the time of loss.
注釋：（the）assured： 確定的，保證的（在這里引申為“被保險人”）subject matter insured： 保險標的 at the time of ： 在……時候
中文意思：只有在被保險人的保險標的受到損失時，海運保險合同才會生效。
英文原文：Cargo Insurance is a contract of indemnity， that is， to compensate for the loss of damage in terms of the value of the insured goods.
注釋：that is：即，就是，換句話說 compensate： 賠償，補償 in terms of ： 按照，根據，在……方面 value： 價值
中文意思：貨物保險實際是一種補償合同，即按照被保險貨物的價值對其損失進行賠償。
英文原文：The amount insured as agreed between the insurer and the insured forms the basis of indemnity.
注釋：amount insured： 保險金額（amount： 總數，總額） agreed： 經過協商的，同意的 （ the ） insurer： 保險人（= underwriter） the insured：（=the assured） 被保險人 form： 在這里為動詞“構成，形成” basis： 基礎
中文意思：賠償金額是以保險人和被保險人之間協商的保險金額為基礎計算。
英文原文：The principle of utmost good faith is indispensable in any insurance contract.
注釋：indispensable： 不可缺少的，絕對必要的（dispensable： 不重要的，可省的，“in-”前綴表否定或者相反意思）
中文意思：最大誠信原則在任何保險合同中都是必不可缺少的。
英文原文：A contract of marine insurance is a contract based upon the utmost good faith， and， if the utmost good faith be not observed by either party， the contract may be avoided by the other party. Unless the policy otherwise provides， the insurer is not liable for any loss that is not proximately caused by a peril insured against.
注釋：based upon： = based on 根據，以……為基礎 observe：遵守，奉行 either party： 任一的一方（兩方中的每一方） avoid： 避免，撤銷，使無效 Unless the policy otherwise provides：除保單另有規定外 （otherwise： 不同的，另外 provide： 規定）be liable for： 對…應負責任 peril： 危險，危險事物 insured against： 投保
中文意思：海上保險合同是建立在最大誠信基礎之上的合同，如果合同任何一方不遵守最大誠信，另一方可以使合同無效。除保單另有規定外，保險人對于非由所承保的危險近因所致的損失概不負責。
