首先有個簡單的詞：conclude. 我們平時經常用它來表示得出結論，而它也
有“結束”的意思：

    The Vancouver Olympics concluded on Sunday and it could not have been
a much better finish for host country Canada， which won the final gold
medal.溫哥華冬奧會在周日落下帷幕，對于東道主加拿大來說，能獲得最后一枚
金牌是一個再好不過的結局了。

    ？提起“結束”我們首先想到的肯定就是end 和close 了，而這兩個詞除了
直接做動詞用，也可以作為名詞組成詞組：come to an end或者come to a close.
剛才我們說到一句“美好的事物都有終結的一天”，看看用這個詞組怎么說呢：

    All good things come to an end and tomorrow will be no different.
美好的事物都有終結的一天，而明天也不例外。（因為亞運會要結束了啦~ ）

    The 8th global gathering of Nantah graduates which was attended by
600 people， came to a close on June 9. 有600 人參加的第8 屆全球南大校
友聯歡會已經在6 月9 日落幕了。

    ？中文里我們會用“落幕”一詞來表達“結束”之意，英文里是否也如此呢？

    沒錯，英文里也是一樣的喲：

    His admirers want to honor the singer before the final curtain falls
on his career.這位歌手的追隨者們希望能在他的職業生涯落幕前向他表達敬意。

    The curtain falls on something，帷幕落下，就表示the end comes to something，
某事要結束了。也可以說the curtain comes down on something.

    另外大家應該知道，以前劇院在開幕和落幕時會進行打鈴，于是英文里又有
了一個表達：ring the curtain down on something，意思就是bring something
to an end ，結束某事：

    It's time to ring the curtain down on our relationship. We have nothing
in common anymore.我們倆已經沒有任何共同語言，該是時候結束這段關系了。

    同樣，我們可以得出ring the curtain up 就是“開始某事”的意思：

    I am set to ring up the curtain on a new lifestyle. 我要開始一種新
的生活方式。
