要點：neither后面用的是倒裝語序（could we）。 which do exist 的先行詞為vacancies，但被of a different type 隔開。exist后面是一個由for（等立連詞）引導的原因狀語從句，用來作附加說明。
譯文：我們不能不負責任地給你這種職務，也不愿讓你接受其他工種現有的一兩個空缺，因為這兩個中任何一個都不適合教育程度和能力達到你這樣高水平的人去做。

要點：本句是判斷句的倒裝。Along with引導的介詞短語在句中作表語，為了使句子的結構達到平衡協調，把帶有較長修飾語的主語部分放到句子的后部，以避免頭重腳輕。表語提前，還達到了強調表語所表達的意義的作用。介詞短語along with意為"together with".
譯文：美國人在自貶別人對自己稱贊的同時，還有一種傾向，那就是嘲笑自己的錯誤并承認自己的弱點。

要點：此句的后半部分"as did the ancient Persians, Greeks and Romans"中的連詞"as"引出方式狀語從句。"did"為代動詞，代替主句的"had trained messengers on horseback ａnd runners before 1100 B.C".因為從句主語較長，謂語較短，為了保持句子平衡，將謂語動詞提前。正常語序為" as the ancient Persians, Greeks and Romans did"。
