　　26、apparent, evident, manifest, obvious, distinct這一組形容詞都有"明顯的"之意。

　　apparent a.明顯的，顯而易見的，尤指容易觀察或認識到的事物。

　　E.g. It has been apparent that in other areas standards have held up well.

　　顯然，這些標準在其他地區執行得很好。

　　evident a.明白的，明顯的，與apparent基本同意，多用于推理或由事實證明的事物。

　　E.g. The threat of inflation is already evident in bond prices.

　　通貨膨脹的危險在證券價格上已經表現得很明顯。

　　manifest a.清楚的，明顯的，多指根據外部特征或跡象便能看出或了解其意義，常作表語。

　　E.g. Fear was manifest on her face. 她臉上顯露出懼怕的神情。

　　obvious a.明顯的，顯而易見的，含有無可辯白，不需證明之意。

　　E.g. It's obvious that you need more time to think. 顯然你需要更多時間來思考。

　　distinct a.清楚的，明顯的;不同的，獨特的。修飾性質明顯不同的東西。

　　E.g. The lighthouse beam was quite distinct in the gathering dusk.

　　燈塔的光束在漸濃的暮色中清晰可見。

　　27、applaud, clap, commend, praise

　　applaud v.鼓掌，贊揚，指因精湛表演或某種行為得到別人的贊許，大聲叫好或熱烈鼓掌。

　　E.g. Every person stood to applaud his unforgettable act of courage.

　　所有人起立為他不可磨滅的英勇之舉鼓掌。

　　clap v.拍打，其用法是clap one's hand=applaud,不能說applaud one's hands。clap sb.為某人鼓掌，clap sth. 拍打某物。

　　E.g. Midge clapped her hands, calling them back to order. 米奇拍手示意他們安靜下來。

　　commend v.為正式用詞，用于對具體功績或成就表示嘉獎，通常指上級對下級、長輩對晚輩的贊賞。

　　E.g. The reports commend her bravery. 報告稱贊她的英勇。

　　praise v.為一般用詞，用于對某人的優秀品質表示欽佩羨慕;贊頌，贊美。

　　E.g. The American president praised Turkey for its courage.

　　美國總統稱贊了土耳其的勇氣。

　　28、area, district, region, vicinity, zone這一組詞都有"區域"的意思。

　　area n.泛指面積較大的地區;面積;專業領域。

　　E.g. The survey was carried out in both urban and rural areas.

　　該調查在城市和鄉村地區都開展了。

　　district n.行政區劃的小范圍地區。

　　E.g. This district used to grow cotton on a large scale. 這個地區過去大量種棉花。

　　region n.行政區劃上更大的地區，如"自治區";身體部位。

　　E.g. Most of the countries in the region have unstable economies.

　　這個地區大多數國家的經濟都不穩定。

　　vicinity n.周圍地區，附近地區。

　　E.g. There were a hundred or so hotels in the vicinity of the station.

　　在車站附近有大約一百家左右的旅館。

　　zone n.指特定的地方、地帶。

　　E.g. Many people have stayed behind in the potential war zone.

　　許多人留在了可能會淪為交戰區的地方。

　　29、assembly, conference, congress, rally, seminar, session, summit, symposium都有"會議"的意思。

　　assembly n.集合，集會。

　　E.g. Any kind of assembly was suppressed in this country.

　　該國過去禁止一切形式的集會。

　　conference n. (專門性的)會議，討論會。

　　E.g. The two parties clashed in the conference. 在會議中雙方意見發生沖突。

　　congress n.代表大會，(美國的)國會。

　　E.g. The National People's Congress is the supreme organ of state power.

　　全國人民代表大會是最高國家權力機關。

　　rally n. (鼓舞士氣的)集會;群眾性集會。

　　E.g. About three thousand people held a rally to mark international human rights day.

　　大約三千人舉行集會以紀念國際人權日。

　　seminar n. (大學的)研究班，研討會。

　　E.g. I attended almost every lecture and seminar when I was at college.

　　我上大學時，幾乎每一個講座和研討會都去參加。

　　session n. (一屆)會議，回合。

　　E.g. It seems that the suit has to hang over till its next session.

　　看來這個訴訟案得留到下次開庭時處理了。

　　summit n.最高級會議，峰會(通常為領導人參加)。

　　E.g. We have to hustle the preparations for a summit meeting between the USA and China.

　　我們得趕快做好中美兩國間最高級會晤的準備工作。

　　symposium n. (學術、科研方面的)座談會，專題報告會。

　　E.g. He had been taking part in an international symposium on population.

　　他那時正參加一個有關人口問題的國際研討會。

　　30、assessment, estimate, evaluation這一組名詞都有"評估"的意思。

　　assessment n.評估，估價，常常表示對于財產、價值的評估。

　　E.g. There is little assessment of the damage to the natural environment.

　　幾乎未對自然環境破壞程度做出評估。

　　estimate n.估計，強調進行評估得出的結果，常與give搭配。

　　E.g. The committee lacked a correct estimate of his ability.

　　委員會對他的能力缺乏正確的評價。

　　evaluation n. (對于能力，價值、工作業績的)評價，估價，常帶有肯定的、正確的含義。

　　E.g. We need to carry out a proper evaluation of the new system.

　　我們需要對這套新體系做出一個正確的評價。
