天津黑利伯瑞國際學校小學開學第一周大事件

　　親愛的小學家長們

　　Welcome to the Primary school bulletin of Tianjin Haileybury International School. Each fortnight, a bulletin will be written which will report on the news and events within the Primary school. There will also be a special focus on the English program in the bulletin. Our Primary school continues to expand, and we have already warmly welcomed many new students and their families into the Haileybury family. We have also welcomed many new Chinese and foreign teachers into the teaching team, and they have been warmly received by staff and students. This week we will introduce four new international teachers who have just joined us. Firstly, lower Primary English teacher, Mr. Brodi Craddock joins us from Canada after 2 years of teaching in Hong Kong. He is currently completing a Master’s degree in World History and enjoys reading, composing music, and carpentry. Mr. Daniil Konev is another new lower Primary English teacher. He has experience in working with children and adults as well as in exam preparation. He enjoys swimming and he writes English songs in his free time. He is delighted to be working in China and is ready for the challenges that working in a foreign country may bring. Todd Nelson is one of our new upper Primary English teachers. He is an experienced educator who has been working in the education industry for 10 years. Todd comes from Texas (USA) where he was a special education teacher working in inner city Dallas schools. Todd has a wife and two daughters (Tara and Keira) and this is their fourth year in China. Finally, Ms. Cara Suski is also another one of our new upper Primary English teachers. She grew up in a small town located in the middle of Canada and she is here in China with her husband and their eleven-year-old son. They arrived in the middle of August and are really enjoying China. Before coming to China, Cara had been teaching in South Korea for eleven years. She enjoys outdoor activities such as camping, running, biking and spending time at the beach. She is really looking forward to this school year. We warmly welcome Brodi, Daniil, Todd and Cara this year and we trust that they will have a productive and successful year here at Haileybury.

　　歡迎閱讀天津黑利伯瑞國際學校小學校報。我們將每隔兩周寫一份公告，報告小學的新聞和事件。公告中也將特別關注英語課程。我們的小學在不斷壯大，我們向加入黑利伯瑞的新同學和他們的家庭表示熱烈的歡迎。為了滿足擴班的需求，也有許多新的中外優秀教師加入到教學團隊中，對此，我們全校師生向新老師們表示熱烈歡迎。本周我們將介紹四位剛剛加入我們的新外教老師。首先，小學低年級英語教師Brodi Craddock先生，Brodi先生來自加拿大，有2年在香港教學的經驗。他目前正在攻讀世界歷史碩士學位，他喜歡閱讀、作曲和木工。Daniil Konev先生是另一位小學部新的低年級英語教師。他有與兒童和成人一起工作的經驗，也有備考方面的經驗。他喜歡游泳以及在業余時間寫英文歌。他很高興能夠在中國工作，并表示將以積極的態度面對挑戰和困難。Todd Nelson先生是我們小學新的高年級英語教師之一。他是一位經驗豐富的教師，今年是他進入教育行業的第十年。Todd來自得克薩斯州(美國)，曾作為一名特殊教育教師在達拉斯內城學校工作。Todd有一個的妻子和兩個的女兒(Tara和Keira)，今年是他們來到中國的第四年。最后，Cara Suski女士也是我們小學新的高年級英語教師之一。她在加拿大中部的一個小鎮長大，她和她的丈夫以及他們11歲的兒子在8月中旬抵達中國，他們表示真的很喜歡中國。在來中國之前，Cara已經在韓國教了11年書。她喜歡戶外活動，比如野營、跑步、騎自行車，也喜歡在海灘上度過美好時光。她對這個學年充滿了期待。我們熱烈歡迎Brodi, Daniil, Todd 和Cara 在今年加入黑利伯瑞，相信他們在黑利伯瑞的這一年，一定會收獲滿滿并取得優異的成績。

　　At Haileybury, every child matters, every day. This means that we seek to cater to and respect the individual needs of every student at our school. In order to make this motto a reality, we have implemented policies and procedures across all subjects which are aimed at improving the educational outcomes of all of our students. These outcomes are holistic in nature as they focus not only on the test scores of individuals but also on the educational process in the classroom. The implementation of policies and procedures for the purpose of maintaining teaching and learning quality is seen in the Primary school English program. These policies and procedures can be broadly divided into formative and summative performance indicators. Formative performance indicators are process indicators such as student handwriting neatness, the utilisation of the Haileybury Teaching Model (I do, We do, You do), student organisation and teaching formalities. Summative performance indicators show how successful a student has been. Such indicators include student weekly test scores and the quality of homework submission. We will also continue to prepare our students for the internationally recognised Cambridge Starters, Movers, Flyers, KET and PET exams this year. At Haileybury, high standards have been set for the maintenance of quality in teaching and learning every day in the Primary school.

　　在黑利伯瑞，每個孩子的每至關重要。這意味著我們力求滿足并尊重學校每個學生的個人需求。為實現這個承諾，我們推行了一系列全學科的教學策略和教學方法，旨在改善并提高我們全體學生的教育質量。我們取得的教學成果在實質上具有整體性，因為我們不僅關注每個學生的考試成績，同時也兼顧其課堂學習的過程。這些教學方法和教學步驟的有力實施是為了保證小學英語課程教與學的質量。這些政策和方法可以大致分為形成性和總結性兩項成績管理標準。形成性評價也就是過程管理評價，例如：學生書寫的整潔度，作業的提交，黑利伯瑞教學模式(我做，你做，大家做)的落實。終結性評價是教師和學生成功的體現，包括周測成績和提交作業的質量。我們還將繼續為學生準備劍橋少兒英語一級、劍橋少兒英語二級，劍橋少兒英語三級，入門英語(KET)和初級英語(PET)的國際認可考試。在黑利伯瑞，高標準的建立都是為了保證小學部每教與學質量的提高。

　　At Haileybury, we seek to provide our students with world-class opportunities which are not provided in other schools. Last week, parents had the opportunity to select fee paying activity programs such as oil painting, modelling, broadcasting, drums, guitar, piano, acting, roller blading, street dance, taekwondo, golf, tennis, robotics and STEM. It is important to develop students who are able to excel in fields outside of the core subjects of English, Maths and Chinese so that they can become well rounded individuals. For example, it is believed that learning piano or a musical instrument will help to speed up a child’s cognitive development. As, it is impossible to provide every single extra-curricular class, actual classes offered will depend on student demand in each category. Please speak to your homeroom teacher if you are unsure which activities will be running this semester.

　　在黑利伯瑞，我們希望為我們的學生提供其他學校所沒有的世界一流課程。在上周，家長有機會選擇活動課項目，比如油畫、模特、播音主持、爵士鼓、吉他、鋼琴、表演、輪滑、街舞、跆拳道、高爾夫、網球、機器人和STEM(科學，技術，工程，數學)。這對于學生培養在英語，數學和中文核心科目以外的領域是非常重要的，他們能夠成為全面發展的個體。例如，學習鋼琴或樂器有助于加快兒童的認知發展。但是，課程數量有限，因此，實際提供的課程將取決于整體的需求。如果您不確定本學期將開展哪些活動課，請與您的班主任進行溝通。

　　Haileybury started in 1892 in Melbourne, Australia with five staff and 17 students. Over the past 127 years, the school has changed dramatically to become one of the leading schools in Australia. What started as a small school has developed into a large global organization with campuses in Keysborough, Brighton, Berwick, Melbourne (City), Darwin and Tianjin (China). I am pleased to announce that on the 16th of August 2019, CEO of the Haileybury organisation -Mr Derek Scott was named Australian School Principal of the Year at the Australian Education Awards in Sydney. Mr. Scott was also named School Principal of the Year – Non-government for his determination to make Haileybury a great global school while providing individual attention that ensures every student matters every day. Head of Mathematics at Haileybury-Mr. Jason Fischer was named Department Head of the Year and Haileybury also won the Best Professional Learning Program. Congratulations to Haileybury and it goes without saying that Haileybury continues to be at the forefront of Australian education.

　　Head of Haileybury Mathematics, Mr. Jason Fischer, was named Department Head of the Year

　　For the purpose of learning from and making the most out of our rich intellectual and impressive human resources, Haileybury Tianjin teachers have been selected to go on two- or three-week professional learning and development programs at Haileybury Melbourne for some years now. In Australia, they are not only able to see some of the latest education theories put into practice by some of the best educators in Australia, but they are also given the opportunity to improve their own pedagogy by teaching classes at our Melbourne campus. This year, eight Haileybury Tianjin teachers took part in this special learning opportunity during the Summer vacation. Upper Primary school English curriculum coordinator Mr. William Fang was one of these lucky teachers who spent two weeks learning from some of the best educators in Australia. He also stayed in a year 4 classroom where he taught English, Maths and physical education lessons. Additionally, he also had meaningful dialogues with his mentor – seasoned teacher Mr. James Salter and with Primary principal Mr. Grenville Green. Mr. Fang will share his experiences to staff at Haileybury Tianjin to ensure that our staff and students continue to benefit from the rich human capital of our Australian campuses.

　　為了學習和充分利用我們豐富的智力和人力資源，天津黑利伯瑞的教師們被選中在墨爾本主要的凱斯伯勒校區進行為期兩到三周的專業發展項目已經持續幾年的時間了。在澳大利亞，他們不僅能夠看到一些澳大利亞的教育工作者踐行的最新教育理論，而且有機會通過在墨爾本校區授課來改進自己的教育方法。今年暑假期間，八位來自天津黑利伯瑞的教師得到了這次特別的學習機會。高年級英語課程協調員方老師是其中一位幸運的教師，他花了兩周時間向澳大利亞的教育工作者學習。他還在一個四年級的班級里教英語、數學和體育課。此外，他還與導師——經驗豐富的教師詹姆斯·索爾特先生和小學校長格倫維爾·格林先生進行了意義深刻的對話。方先生將向天津黑利伯瑞的員工分享他的經歷，以確保我們的員工和學生一直受益于我們澳大利亞校區豐富的人力資源。

　　Every child is unique, and every person has far-reaching potential. As mentioned earlier, we are honoured to have so many new students joining us this year. One of these new students is Liu Zhibo from year 6 blue and he has written a self-introduction which he would like to share with everyone:

　　“Hello, everyone. I'm Liu Zhibo from Year 6 Blue. My English name is Richard. I am very proud of our splendid civilization and culture. I love my country and am always learning from our founding fathers. When I learnt that the ancients played the Book of Songs with the GuQin (Chinese harp), the idea of learning the GuQin myself arose. The music of the GuQin is very beautiful and I believe it brings me into another world. There is Quyuan's “Huaisha”, Li Bai's “Elegance”, and Du Fu's “Depth”. The GuQin and Chinese poetry are inextricably linked. My dream is to stand on the world stage and spread Chinese culture. At Haileybury, I can begin to fulfil my dreams as there is a fusion of Chinese and Western cultures here. I am determined to read the world's classical literature, to stimulate my writing and inner feelings. I want to cultivate further literacy by exploring Chinese and Western classics. Fellow musical and literary enthusiasts, let's share and absorb the true essence of ancient and modern Chinese and foreign literature through reading!”

　　每個孩子都是的，每個人都有深遠的潛力。如前所述，我們很榮幸今年有這么多新學生加入我們。其中一名新同學是來自6年級Blue班的劉知泊，他寫了一篇自我介紹，想要與大家分享：我是來自6Blue班的劉知泊，英文名字是Richard。好奇追求新知的我總是對中華燦爛文明的文化而感到驕傲，我熱愛國學，喜歡把歷史朝代結合人物作品來學習，當我了解到古人就是把《詩經》用古琴來彈奏的，也萌生了學古琴的想法。琴音是如此的美妙，帶我進入了一個神奇的音樂世界，這里有屈原的《懷沙》，有李白的飄逸，還有杜甫的深沉，古琴與詩歌曲賦竟然有著這么密不可分的聯系。我有一個夢想，就是站在世界的舞臺上傳播中國的文化。黑利伯瑞，是我的夢開始的地方。在這個中西方文化交融的環境中，我立志要精讀世界經典文學，激發寫作興趣和真情實感，通過比較文學的思辨探索中西方名著，培養文學素養。喜歡閱讀的同學們，讓我們一起通過閱讀分享、汲取古今中外文學中的真正精髓，傳承博大精深的華夏文脈。
