Creation/Destruction (1) 1) Did you watch the new office building being built? 你看過在建設中的新的辦公樓嗎？ * office 之后之所以接 being built，主要因為是指“在建設中”。 2) The racer's car burst into flames just as he had crawled out. 當賽車手爬出車子后不久，汽車就爆炸燃燒了起來。 * burst 是爆炸的意思，有強調其突然和猛烈的作用。 3) Insecticides destroy many harmful bugs. 殺蟲劑能驅除許多害蟲。 * destroy 是被滅盡、撲滅，和 damage 等不同，具有完全破壞之意。 4) The young wheat sprouted quickly after the rain. 雨后，新鮮的麥芽迅速的長了出來。 * sprout 用于指植物長出新芽。 e.g. Brussels sprout. 芽孢。 5) Eugene could create beautiful images with his paints. 尤金能夠把美麗的形象用畫筆畫出來。 6) Slowly, mountains are worn away by the wind. 山體逐漸被風化了。 * 使用 wear 表示疲倦時，可以用“I'm worn out.”表達。 7) The chemist discovered a new synthetic material. 化學家發現了新的復合物質。 * discover 除了 find out 以外，也有“知道”的意思。 e.g. I discovered I was wrong. 我知道我錯了。（這是一個常用句） 8) Don't drop that bottle on the floor. 別讓那只瓶子掉到地上。 9) He uses clay to form images of people. 他利用粘土造各種的人像。 * organize, construct, constitute 等和 create 具有同樣意思，但并不含有創造性的意義。 |
