China commemorates centenary of end to imperial rule
紀念辛亥革命100周年
BEIJING， Oct. 9 （Xinhua） -China held a grand ceremony to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the 1911 Revolution， which terminated 2，000 years of imperial rule， on Sunday morning at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
新華社消息，10月9日星期日上午，紀念辛亥革命100周年的儀式在北京人民大會堂隆重舉行。發生于1911年的辛亥革命結束了中國兩千多年的帝國主義統治。
The 1911 Revolution， or Xinhai Revolution， which began on Oct. 10， 1911 with an armed uprising， ended one of the longest autocratic rule in the world established by Emperor Qinshihuang in B.C.221 by toppling the Qing Dynasty （1644-1911） and resulting in a republican government， the first in Asia.
1911年10月10日的辛亥革命開始于武裝起義，結束了自公元221年秦始皇建立的也是世界上時間最長的獨裁統治，推翻了清朝（1644-1911）的統治，成立了亞洲第一個共和制政府。
Chinese president Hu Jintao and other leaders attended the ceremony. Hu gave a keynote speech.
中華人民共和國主席胡錦濤及其他領導人參加了此次紀念儀式，胡錦濤發表主題演講。
The revolution not only rid Chinese men of humiliating ponytails and women of the excruciatingly painful foot-binding， but also removed the people's blind faith in the emperor， as well as the fear of foreign powers. The event has since been emancipating people's minds from thousands of years of oppression and self-enclosure.
辛亥革命不僅從外貌上讓中國男人從此丟掉了屈辱的辮子頭，讓中國婦女從此擺脫痛苦“裹腳”的束縛，更重要的是，讓中國人民從內心擺脫了對皇帝的盲目信仰和對外國勢力的畏懼心理。自此，辛亥革命解放了中國人民壓抑和封閉了幾千年的思想。
President Hu speaks highly of 1911 Revolution
胡錦濤主席高度評價辛亥革命
The 1911 Revolution was "a thoroughly modern， national and democratic revolution" which had shook the world and ushered in unprecedented social changes in China， according to Chinese President Hu Jintao.
胡錦濤主席在演講中說道：“辛亥革命是一次完全意義上的近代民族民主革命，震驚了世界，開啟了中國進入前所未有的社會變革。”
The Revolution of 1911 overthrew the Qing Dynasty， ended the absolute monarchy that had ruled China for thousands of years， spread the ideas of democracy and republic， and brought about earthshaking social changes in modern China that had a profound impact， said Hu.
胡錦濤表示，辛亥革命推翻了清政府的統治，結束了統治中國幾千年的君主專制，傳播了民主共和的思想，為中國帶來了翻天覆地的社會變革，給近代中國帶來了深遠的影響。
