　　要點：基本句型 “ It is important that……” ，that 主語從句的謂語為虛擬語氣（be）。 Either…or… 連接語法上相同的兩部分：will pause…和 will terminate…。
　　參考譯文：重要的是當說話者的目光重新停留在聽眾臉上的一瞬間，聽眾一定得看著他（她），如果沒看，說話者就會認為聽眾不感興趣，那么就會停下來等聽眾的目光重新回到他（她）的臉上或者終止談話。

　　要點：rather than意為“而不”。其前后在語法上為相同的成分。此處為兩個結(jié)構(gòu)相同的介詞短語on the specific skills……和on the basic background skills……。
　　參考譯文：培訓工人的有限投資應重點地集中使用于完成下一個工作所必需的特殊技能的培訓上，而不是用在能讓他們吸收新技術(shù)的基本技能的培訓上。
　　PS: 這是書上的譯文，但有同學提出異議，那豆豆在仔細看了一下，覺得同學說的是很有道理的，此處沒有"應當"的含義。豆豆也覺得翻成：培訓工人的有限投資更多地被狹隘的集中使用于完成下一個工作所必需的特殊技能的培訓上，而不是用在能讓他們吸收新技術(shù)的基本技能的培訓上。僅為個人觀點，供大家參祥

　　參考譯文：人們只能猜測，如果他聽到了很多有關(guān)的情況，這只能堅定他的決心：不能讓他和他新娘成為展品而丟人現(xiàn)眼——活著的時候不可以，死了也不行
